It’s the kind of place where the pace slows into something more familiar and easygoing—more about comfort and warmth than flash or fuss. The cushions of nostalgia settle in quickly, especially if you peek at the retro furnishings that quietly tell stories from decades past.
Though primarily a takeout spot, Happy Dragon offers a genuine sense of neighborhood connection. It’s a reliable friend to many locals, the kind of place you might stop by on a whim when craving a hearty, no-frills Chinese meal. What makes this experience come alive is the steady flow of familiar flavors designed to satisfy without pretense. The menu is anchored by homestyle chow mein and chop suey dishes, alongside a few spirited specialties that bring a touch of heat and complexity. Whether it's the savory scent of a spicy Szechuan chicken or the unassuming pleasure of a classic roast pork chow mein, each plate feels thoughtfully crafted to honor tradition while inviting some kitchen boldness. Portions lean towards generous, inviting the sharing of meals or a lingering picnic by the river just a short distance away.

First time here, just passing through the city. I got the sweet sour chicken and beef and broccoli. Chicken is amazing! I wish I had gone with cashew chicken or something else over the beef, beef was low quality and broccoli overcooked. The food overall was good and really good prices. Skip the crab ragoons. I’d def recommend, everything was yummy and the staff is so friendly. Good sized portions too! Fried rice was fine, lo mien good. The chicken on a stick is popular but I didn’t try it personally. If you are craving rice and Chinese def come here

The Kung Pao chicken is consistently SO good. Same goes for any of the fried rices on menu. Food is done and ready for pick up very quick every time. The cherry on top is that its affordable. These folks have been keeping me alive for a few years by this point.

I understand why this place gets mixed reviews. The service was quick and friendly, there was a large offering at the buffet and the food was good. However, it doesn't look like the fixtures and furniture have been updated since the 70's and a few of the dishes that should have been hot were cold.

We really enjoyed lunch at this little restaurant- it’s takeout only, so plan to get utensils, napkins and take food to the river. Portions were good, flavors right! I posted a menu from today too.
